Step by Step Royal Visit July 2019
It was a real honour for us all to welcome Their Royal Highness The Earl and Countess of Forfar to Step by Step in Moray (SbyS). The weather stayed fair and our 21 families, volunteers, staff and trustees enjoyed showing the Royal couple around our wonderful facilities.
The visit took the same structure as our group sessions with arrival and free-play in the garden being followed by an arts and craft session of modelling with play-doh and finger painting which the Earl particularly enjoyed. The Very Hungry Caterpillar story was then read with the Countess enjoying the comfort of a bean bag to interact with the families. Pancakes, fruit and refreshments were then offered in the Family Room and the relaxed atmosphere allowed our visitors to chat further with assembled parents, children and volunteers.
After a short explanation of the various partner organisations that we work with, everyone then proceeded to the garden to sing OId Macdonald Had a Farm, Happy Birthday to 6 of our children and a rousing rendition of Wind the Bobbin Up. Finally, there was a presentation to the Countess of a framed finger-painted flower produced by our children to commemorate the visit.
The Earl and Countess of Forfar were an absolute delight to host and took a very keen interest in everyone associated with SbyS encouraging us all to keep up the good work as they departed. It really was a wonderful occasion – one which has provided lasting memories for us all to cherish.
